About Me!

Hello! My name is Tyler DiPentima and I am an early career software engineer located in Atlanta, Georgia. I grew up in South Florida, moving up to Atlanta for college. At first, I was enrolled as a Biomedical Engineering major hoping to specialize in creating medical robotics. My interests moved towards general robotics and design as I learned of all the amazing projects being worked on that can have a positive impact on the world. I wanted to make sure I was getting a broader education on engineering topics, so I changed majors, graduating with a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science in December of 2021.

As my passion for software development grew with each class I took, I decided to pursue a Masters in Computer Science dual-specializing in Robotics & Perception and Artificial Intelligence. I am currently taking classes for this Masters at Georgia Tech with the expectation of graduating this year. Some of the projects you'll see on this website are from this Master's program and are just a few examples of all the interesting content and teachings this program has provided me!

To supplement my Master's work with real-world experience I worked as a R&D software engineer for 2 years at Alvaria. At this company I began in the Early Career program and spent a few months learning important concepts related to product design, product documentation, and Agile. After this short learning period, I was promoted to Product Owner and entrusted with the challenge of reviving two products that were not suitable for release and had limited documentation. I worked hard to learn the products, reading code and asking questions constantly to wrap my head around everything. After rewriting one product entirely from Bash to Python and bugfixing the other, I was left with two products ready for release to clients with few bugs being reported in the field. When an issue did arise whether on a client's side or in QA, I was sure to hop on a call and resolve it as quickly as possible. In my free time at work, I would research new third-party libraries and tools that we could integrate into our products to make them more reliable and developer / QA / client friendly.

When not watching lectures or working, I spend my leisure time watching sports as a South Florida sports fan. My family was baseball-focused when I was growing up, but I developed a love for basketball as I grew up watching the Lebron James Miami Heat era unfold a few miles south in Miami. I have recently delved into the world of sports analytics after my coursework and reading a few books about how Artificial Intelligence and Big Data are being leveraged in pro sports. There is a lot to learn but as I keep reading and try out some new projects I think it will start all making sense, so be on the lookout for that project post!

For my next job, I am looking to further grow my software and database skills by working with a motivated team to solve impactful issues and create new products.
